Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data Sonder collects when you use the website at http://localhost:3300 (the “Service”), why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. It forms part of our Terms of Service.

1. Who is responsible

Sonder operates the Service and is the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach us at legal@thesonderaudio.com for any privacy question or request.

2. What we collect

Account data. When you register we store your email address, display name, a handle, and a cryptographically hashed version of your password. We never store the password itself.

Profile data you choose to add. Tagline, biography, avatar and banner images, and links to profiles you hold elsewhere. Everything on your public profile is visible to anyone.

Content you publish. Episodes, artwork, descriptions, chapters, transcripts, comments and replies. Published content is public and is described in machine-readable form so that search engines and other services can attribute it to you correctly.

Activity data. Episodes you play, like, save or comment on, creators you follow, and the date and time of those actions. This powers your History, Liked and Saved pages and the audience statistics shown to creators in aggregate.

Technical data. IP address, browser type, device type, referring page and timestamps, recorded in server logs for security, abuse prevention and to keep the Service running.

3. Why we use it

  • To provide the Service you asked for: your account, your library, playback and publishing (performance of a contract).
  • To attribute published episodes to their authors and to protect that attribution (our legitimate interest and yours).
  • To keep the Service secure, prevent abuse and enforce our Terms (legitimate interest).
  • To respond when you contact us (legitimate interest).
  • To comply with legal obligations, including valid requests from authorities.

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles.

4. Cookies and local storage

We use a single strictly necessary cookie, session, that keeps you logged in. It contains a signed token, not your password, and expires when you log out or after a period of inactivity. Your browser’s local storage may hold playback preferences such as volume, speed and the last episode you played. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies, and we do not load third-party analytics scripts.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell personal data. We share it only with:

  • Infrastructure providers that host the Service, its database and uploaded media on our behalf, under contracts that limit them to processing data for us.
  • Authorities or other parties when the law requires it, or when necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of Sonder, our members or the public.
  • A successor in the event of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

Episodes that you link from other platforms are played through those platforms’ own players. Their privacy policies apply to the data they collect when you press play.

6. How long we keep it

  • Account and profile data: for as long as your account exists.
  • Published episodes and comments: until you delete them or your account.
  • Activity data: until you clear it, delete your account, or 24 months after the event, whichever comes first.
  • Server logs: up to 90 days, unless needed longer for an active security investigation.
  • Authorship records (content hashes and signatures): retained after deletion so that first-publication can still be proven, without the content itself.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. You can edit your profile and delete your own episodes and comments at any time from your account. For anything else, email legal@thesonderaudio.com. We answer within 30 days and may ask you to confirm that you control the account concerned.

8. Security

All traffic to the Service is encrypted in transit. Passwords are hashed with a modern, salted algorithm. Access to production systems is limited to the people who operate the Service. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and tell us immediately if you suspect your account has been compromised.

9. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

10. International transfers

Our providers may store data in countries other than yours. Where the law requires it, we rely on recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses to protect that data.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service evolves. Material changes are announced on the Service before they take effect, and the effective date above is updated. Continued use after that date means you accept the revised policy.

12. Contact
